Edgbaston, Birmingham

Nestled in Birmingham’s southern suburb, Edgbaston is Warwickshire County Cricket Club’s home. The stadium was built in 1882 having a capacity of 25,000 people. It has the best modern ground in England, and the Thwaite Memorial Scoreboard that was constructed in 1950 is considered to be one of the most remarkable features of the stadium.

How to reach?

You can reach the venue through public transport. However, if you are staying nearby, you can also choose to walk or cycle.

Headingley, Leeds

Headingley is situated in the suburb of Leeds. Yorkshire Cricket Club call the stadium their home. Established in 1890, it can accommodate as many as 17,500 persons.

How to reach?

The railway is the best way to reach this stadium. You can also take a taxi or event day shuttle services to reach the venue.

The Kennington Oval is located near the river Thames. Host to ten World Cup matches since its inauguration in 1975; this is also the place where England and Australia played the first Test match on English soil in 1880.

Lord’s is home to home to England and Wales Cricket Board and is owned by the Marylebone Cricket Club. It has a unique structure designed by Sir Herbert Baker. This iconic stadium is considered to be the ‘Mecca of Cricket’ and quite obviously, playing here is regarded as an absolute honour by many cricketers. Playing a Test at what is considered to be the cricket’s home is still considered as the highest point for many cricketers.

How to reach?

The stadium is situated in central London. You can either take the Metro or London bus to reach the venue.

Old Trafford, Manchester

Lancashire Cricket Club and the famous Manchester United football club call Emirates Old Trafford their home. It lies south of the Manchester city centre. It can accommodate an audience of 19,000 people.

How to reach?

Old Trafford is 3 miles from Manchester Piccadilly. Manchester Piccadilly has a good network of the railway.

Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street

Riverside Ground is Durham County Cricket Club’s home. The first significant match was played here in 1992 between Durham and the New Zealanders. Its infrastructural development was undertaken in 1995, and the seating capacity was increased to 17,000 people.

How to reach?

It is almost at a distance of 6 miles from Durham. You don’t have to worry about transport as shuttle bus services will operate on match days from Durham station to the Riverside.

Sophia Gardens, Cardiff

Sophia Gardens or the SWALEC Stadium has been a witness to some of the most significant matches in the history of Glamorgan County Cricket Club. The first match was played between Glamorgan and Indians in 1967. It can accommodate 15,000 people.

You can walk, cycle or opt for public transport to reach the venue depending on your location.

The Rose Bowl, Southampton

Michael Hopkins & Partners, the award-winning architects are the designers behind the Hampshire or Rose Bowl which is in the shape of a circular amphitheater. It is home to Hampshire County Cricket Club and will host a World Cup match for the first time on June 5 since its establishment in 2001. The stadium has the capacity to fit in 25,000 people.

How to reach?

There are free shuttles available to reach the venue from Southampton Airport. If you’re staying in London or Weymouth, then you can reach the stadium by train.

County Ground, Bristol

Situated in Ashley Down area, County Ground stadium was established by WG Grace, former English cricketer in 1889 with a capacity of accommodating 15,000 persons. It has been a host to Gloucestershire for almost 130 years. The stadium has hosted three World Cup matches in the past and will host another three this time.

How to reach?

The stadium is just 2.5 miles away from the Temple Meads Station which is well-connected by trains to London, Birmingham, and Taunton. Alternatively, you can also hop on a local bus on Gloucester Road. Don’t drive to the venue on your personal vehicles as there is no parking facility available.

Trent Bridge, Nottingham

Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club’s home, this stadium was built in 1841 with a capacity of accommodating as many as 17,000 people and since then has proved to be quite historic and lucky for the host nation. England has won many matches in Trent Bridge.

How to reach?       

It’s easily accessible due to its proximity to Nottingham railway station which is just a mile away from the stadium. Tram and local buses are other ways of reaching the venue. Those who love walking can reach the stadium through official walking route organized by ICC between Nottingham station and Trent Bridge.

The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton

Somerset County Cricket Club call the County Ground their home. It was constructed in 1882 and is surrounded by the beautiful towers of three churches giving its location a distinct edge. The first championship match was played on this ground in 1891.

How to reach?

It’s easy to reach owing to its half-a-mile distance from the Taunton railway station. The station is well-connected with London, Birmingham, and Bristol.
